The ducks return to Grand Valley May 27

The Grand Valley Lions are holding their 22nd Annual Duck Race on May 27 with more prizes and almost double the prize amount from 2016.

Tickets are $5 for a duck and the Lions will be at the Orangeville Lions Home and Garden Show selling tickets and Duck Day in Grand Valley.

This year, there are three $1,000 prizes sponsored by A and P Walker and son Trucking, Grand Valley Wind Farms and Orica Canada. In total, there are 93 prizes with a value of  $21,127.51.

Duck Day starts with a community breakfast cooked by the Grand Valley Lions from 8 to 11am at the Community Centre.

The Horticultural Society is holding its annual Plant Sale on Amaranth Street East from 8 to 11am plus numerous garage sales throughout the town.

Entertainment starts in Hereward Park at 12pm with live music and demonstrations. Other events include:

– ponies from Grand River Rodeo;

– free face painting sponsored by Grand Valley Dental;

– children’s play area from Ontario Early Years;

– free bouncy castles provided by Deckers Tire Service

– free duck hats;

– duck pond with free prizes sponsored by Meridian Credit Union;

– bucket rides provided by Orangeville Hydro;

– booths from Grand Valley Agricultural Society, the Historical Society, River Bend Artists, Canada 150 committee and Service Dogs with Bev and Lotus;

– free cookies (from Boston Pizza), milk (from the Dufferin Dairy Farmers) and popcorn (from Grand Valley Home Hardware);

– win a gas card at the CIBC booth;

– colouring pages from Winmar; and

– food and refreshments provided by Grand Valley Splash pad committee, Minor Soccer, Minor Hockey and Katered by Kelly.

The Duck Race starts at 2pm with the winners determined by the fastest ducks to the finish chute.

Entertainment will continue in Hereward Park until 4pm. The Anglican Church will hold their annual spaghetti supper from 5 to 7pm.
