After recent shows in Peterborough, Ottawa and Kingston, The Door You Came In, Song and Stories from The Danger Tree comes to The Fergus Grand Theatre on June 2.
The Door You Came In toured extensively in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and PEI last summer, returning to Ontario for performances at Stratford, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Parry Sound.
The story, told in words and in song, of a writer returning to his childhood home to read to his mother from a book about her family, is sometimes very funny, sometimes sad, but always richly entertaining.
The Door You Came In has been described as a love letter to Newfoundland.
Its history is especially poignant during the 100th anniversary of a war that inflicted the highest per-capita casualty rate of any British colony on the tiny population.
The show’s music and words are about a universal subject: family.
More than anything, The Door You Came In is about the greatest blessing most families ever know: the love of a mother, officials say.
“It’s an old showbiz adage,” said David Macfarlane, on of the shows writers and performers. “But in our case it seems to be literally true. Audiences laugh. Audiences cry. And they leave the theatre humming a tune.”
