KENILWORTH – Wellington North has awarded the tender for a significant asphalt program to Associated Paving.
Based in Burlington, Associated Paving submitted the lowest of eight bids ($1,230,088 including HST) and met all specified requirements.
The company is set to supply and apply 10,600 tonnes of asphalt for the project.
Township staff will mill the existing asphalt, and apply shoulder gravel and new granular for the base, for approximately $365,000.
The combined cost of the tender and the township work to complete the project is almost $303,000 less than the amount allocated for the program in the 2025 budget ($1,898,000).
The project involves seven stretches of road in Mount Forest, Arthur and rural areas of Wellington North:
- Line 8, between Wellington Roads 14 and 16;
- Sideroad 5, between Concession Roads 9 and 11;
- Prince Charles Street, from Dublin Street to Arthur Street;
- Perth Street, from Sligo Road north to the end of the road;
- Colcleugh Avenue in Mount Forest, from Wellington Street to Birmingham Street;
- Andrew Street in Arthur from Danville Street to the end of the road; and
- a portion of Line 2.
Council voted unanimously to approve the tender during a regular meeting on March 10.
Associated Paving is new to Wellington North, noted senior project manager Tammy Stevenson, but provided references with other municipalities.
Mayor Andy Lennox asked about timing for the project, and Steven said, “We haven’t received a schedule yet.
“I do note that the rural projects aren’t going to be able to start until after Labour Day in order for the roads department to be able to pulverize the road and prepare it for asphalt.
“In town, there’s no timing requirements,” she said.
