Teens taken to hospital after fall over dam

Police are reminding swimmers and hikers to keep safe after two accidents within two days at local parks.

On June 21 at about 5:15pm, emergency crews responded to a call along the Grand River in Bissell Park in Elora.

Wellington County OPP officials say two teenagers “were swimming upstream from a low head dam when the water flow pulled them over the dam.”

The teenage girls, who fell about 4.5 metres (15 feet) onto a concrete base, were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident occurred just two days after a 20-year-old North York man suffered serious head injuries when he fell 15 to 18m (50 to 60 feet) into the Elora Gorge. As of June 21 he was listed in stable condition in a Toronto hospital.

Police are reminding swimmer and hikers to stay in designated areas and obey signs and notices.
