Students here recently marked the accomplishments of raising over $17,000 in about five weeks prior to the Christmas break, substantially more than the original goal of $15,000.
The annual Warm Winter Wishes campaign completed by the business students at Wellington Heights Secondary School raises funds for Christmas presents and hampers for area families.
This year, presents went to 106 children in 50 different families. Seven area schools were included and gift purchases totalled $12,000. Nearly $2,500 filled grocery carts for the families, and the remaining money was divided equally and distributed to schools for breakfast programs. Students did numerous fundraising activities, including a polar bear plunge, chili cook-off and video game competition.
