For one night only, fans from the Fergus area can ask the “Million Dollar Man” whatever they want.
On April 8 World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) hall of famer Ted DiBiase will be performing at the Goofie Newfie Pub and Grill in Fergus.
“As a professional wrestler I was the ultimate bad guy, you know the Million Dollar Man, the guy who thought he could buy anybody or anything,” DiBiase said in an interview with the Advertiser.
“So the fans they come up all the time and they go, ‘Gosh Ted, don’t be offended, but I hated your guts.’ I just go ‘thank you very much you were supposed to.’”
During the Million Dollar Tour show, DiBiase, now an ordained minister, will talk about his life in the WWE and as well as his life after wrestling.
“There are so many stories that we have to tell about being on the road in the wrestling business and a lot of those stories are just hilarious and fans love to hear that,” he said.
“And the other thing that this show will do is … give them an opportunity to ask questions.
“They always want to look behind the curtain.”
DiBiase begins the show by telling his stories and part way through he opens up the floor for the audience to ask him anything they want.
“I get questions about my career and my personal life as well,” he said. “When you start talking to me about my personal life it gives me an opportunity to tell you why I am a Christian and why I believe what I believe.”
He also said the questions often trigger memories that lead to more stories.
One frequent question he is asked is whether, as the Million Dollar Man, he actually kicked a basketball away from a boy after saying he’d give him money to dribble a certain number of times.
“I said ‘no … it was rehearsed’ … but he was a little boy and even though he knew what was going to happen because we’d rehearsed it two or three times, when we did it live I had to be hard core and I have a deep voice and when I told him ‘when you don’t get the job done you don’t get the money,’ he started crying and he ran to his mother and he couldn’t have done it any better,” DiBiase said.
“But everybody was high-fiving in the back when I got back in the back and I said ‘I’m glad you’re all happy but now can you find an armoured vehicle to get me out of the building because the people want to kill me.’”
Fergus is one of eight stops on the Million Dollar Tour.
The doors at the Goofie Newfie will open at 6pm and the show will begin at 8pm with opening performances by guests who are not yet announced.
“Tickets are still available,” said Greg Manley from Scorpion Entertainment in Elora. “But there’s not a lot left. It looks like it’s going to sell out.”
Prior to the April 8 show DiBiase will meet with fans to sign autographs and pose for photos.
Manley said ticket holders will also be able to purchase tickets to win a one-of-a-kind DiBiase hockey jersey made by Jango Sportswear. The proceeds from jersey ticket sales will be donated to a local charity.
Tickets for the Million Dollar Tour are $25 and are available at the Goofie Newfie, by calling the pub at 519-843-4483 or by calling Manley at 519-731-4966.
“I’m very much looking forward to coming out and being there,” DiBiase said.
