WELLINGTON COUNTY – Taste Real invites the public to explore local food options and engage with agriculture and food during the winter months with its Eat Up Your February campaign.
The initiative has put together a list that includes local food retailers, favourite take-out meals with beverage pairings, and local food inspired Valentine’s Day menus and gifts.
Anyone looking to purchase farm-direct can explore product-specific feature pages or browse the online directory that outlines purchasing procedures for each location.
“Local foods have seen an increase in demand since the start of the pandemic,” stated George Bridge, chair of Wellington County’s economic development committee.
“It is important to us to keep that momentum going and to remind everyone that local food is on the menu and available year-round at businesses across Wellington County.”
The campaign also contains a listing of farms offering a farm-share or Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs in Wellington County and Guelph.
“Farm share programs are an excellent way to subscribe for a weekly supply of locally grown produce,” stated Christina Mann, Taste Real Coordinator for the County of Wellington.
“Farm shares were hugely popular last year and we understand that some farms are getting close to sell out of shares for the 2021 season.”
While in-person farm and food experiences are currently halted, virtual farm tours and cooking classes are offered by several different local farms and instructors and are being promoted as part of the campaign.
A new component of the Eat Up Your February is a curated box of local winter foods and crafted products put together in partnership with Guelph Box, with free delivery to households across Wellington County and Guelph on Feb. 23.
