The Top Aggregate Producing Municipalities of Ontario (TAPMO) are encouraged by the collaborative approach that has been demonstrated by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in recent discussions about the Aggregate Resources Act.
The TAPMO Members look forward to continuing the discussions with the MNR on:
• setting the Aggregate Levy at a rate that fairly compensates producing municipalities for the impact on infrastructure
• the move to a more robust inspection and enforcement program, (e.g. A Delegate Administrative Authority, as recommended in the Drummond Report)
• TAPMO also looks forward to a move that would level the playing field, (e.g. All sites, private or Crown, would contribute to the levy).
“The TAPMO Levy Committee, which included of the Aggregate Industry and The Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (OSSGA), has worked hard to provide solutions to areas that we all believe can be improved upon,” said Puslinch Township Mayor Dennis Lever, TAPMO chair. “We look forward to continuing this collaboration with the Government of Ontario.”
TAPMO was established in 2011, and initially included the Top 10 aggregate producing municipalities in Ontario. TAPMO has since expanded to include approximately 40 municipalities which produce 65% of the province’s aggregate material.
