Though it seemed the matter of Swastika Trail was settled when Puslinch council decided not to change the street name, the township is now facing complaints about the process and voting.
During a Jan. 10 meeting councillor John Sepulis noted there were numerous complaints to local politicians and staff regarding a Dec. 20 decision not to change the name of Swastika Trail, a private road near Puslinch Lake in the southwest corner of the township.
The complaints focused on the process and voting on the issue.
Sepulis asked how those concerns were being addressed.
Deputy clerk Nina Lecic acknowledged the complaints were received, adding, “we are following policy.”
Lecic said the township is required to confirm receipt of complaints within seven days and to respond within 30 days.
Mayor Dennis Lever clarified “the complaint process was not designed as a mechanism to complain about a decision made by council.”
The municipal complaint policy approved by council on Nov. 9, 2016 gives residents an opportunity to submit complaints related to any municipal program, service, facility or staff member.
