Sustainable forum in Erin on Oct. 19

Sustainability will be the topic of discussion at a forum being offered at the Erin Legion Branch 442 on Oct. 19.

At the town’s Oct. 4 meeting, councillor Barb Tocher reminded everyone of the coming sustainability forum, co-sponsored by the Environmental Advisory Committee of Erin (EACOE), and the Climate Change Action Group of Erin (CCAGE).

This year’s theme is Make Erin Greener Than Our Shamrock.

EACOE and CCAGE are holding a summit on climate change and sustainability.

The event starts at 7pm with the aim of responding to climate challenges.

One of the scheduled speakers is 2007 Nobel peace prize recipient and Environment Canada climate scientist Don MacIver who will share how climate change is already impacting southern Ontario, and what is predicted.

In addition, Linda Sword of Eden Mills and Sara Peckford of Caledon will share their strategies for action on climate change and sustainability, both current and future.

Tocher said the doors open at 6:30pm with the event running from 7 to 9:30pm.

She added Mayor Lou Maieron would make some opening remarks.

“It should be an interesting meeting,” Tocher said.

She added the following night (Oct. 20) is the annual East Wellington Community Services fashion show.

“I wouldn’t want anyone to miss one of the new models this year – councillor Deb Callaghan,” said Tocher. “We’re all looking forward to that, so don’t miss the fashion show.”

When councillor John Brennan was asked if he was taking part, he quipped, “My legs aren’t good enough.”
