From July 8 to 10, eight members of the Superstars Baton Club traveled to Canton, Ohio to compete at the 2016 Twirling Unlimited International Championships.
Approximately 400 athletes were present from Canada and United States. The judging panel consisted of judges from Ontario, Indiana, Florida, New York, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
The Juvenile Small Dance Twirl Team, “Hot, Hot, Hot” placed sixth out of 14 teams in the International Team Competition. Members include: Mackenzie Fraser, Paige Johnston and Shayla Logel.
The Senior Small Dance Twirl Team, “Jellicle Ball” placed 3rd out of 10 teams in the International Team Competition. Members include: Alyssa George, Lauren Robb and Makenzie Worton.
Individual results
Fraser, 9, of Arthur, won 1st in dress model, 4th in basic march, 5th in strut and costume model, 9th in solo and 17th in the beginner 9 to 11 pageant.
George, 13, of Fergus, won 1st in open 2baton, 2nd in dress modeling, 3rd in rhythmic twirl and 3baton, 7th in strut, 9th in solo and 11th in the advance pageant. George was 3rd in the 12 to 14 international 2baton championship out of 16 athletes.
Hayleigh Homer, 13, of Fergus, won 1st in duet with partner Skylar Irwin, 2nd in costume modeling, 3rd in basic march, 4th in 2baton, 11th in dress model, 13th in strut and 16th in the Intermediate 12 to 14 pageant.
Irwin, 14, of Arthur, won 1st in duet with partner Homer, 9th in solo, 10th in 2baton, 12th in dress and costume model, 15th in strut and 10th in the beginner 12 to 14 pageant.
Johnston, 9, of Arthur, placed 2nd in costume model, 5th in solo, 6th in dress model and strut, 9th in 2baton and 11th in the beginner 9 to 11 pageant.
Logel, 12, of Elora, placed 3rd in dress model and solo, 5th in costume model and basic march, 7th in strut, 12th in 2baton and 2nd in the 9 to 11 Basic Skills pageant out of 16 athletes.
Robb, 17, of Fergus, placed 8th in strut and 2baton, 9th in costume model, solo and rhythmic twirl, 11th in 3baton and 20th in the 15+ intermediate pageant. She was also 11th in the 15+ international 2baton championship out of 17th athletes.
Worton, 15, of Fergus, placed 2nd in solo and 2baton, 3rd in costume model, 6th in strut, 7th in rhythmic twirl, and 15th in the 15+ intermediate pageant. She was also 8th in the 15+ international 2baton championship out of 17th athletes.
The duet team of George and Worton won the junior TU international duet championships out of seven duet teams.
