It’s no secret that the Elora-Fergus area is blessed with the kind of spectacular natural assets that inspire breathtaking works of art.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Elora Fergus Studio Tour – and with more than 30 artists taking part, there are 30-plus reasons to celebrate.
The free, self-guided tour of studios in Elora, Salem, Fergus and surrounds brings together artists and art lovers over two fall weekends in late September and early October.
Many of the studios are within walking distance of each other, and all are within easy driving distance.
It’s a great way to see creative genius in action, get to know artists on their own turf, and appreciate one-of-a-kind pieces that won’t be seen in a gallery setting, organizerst state.
The official opening – at the Fergus Library on Sept. 22 from 6 to 8pm, will showcase a piece from each artist.
There is a breadth of talent this year: 11 painters, four jewelers, two photographers, three artists working in ceramic, two in fibre, five in glass, two in mixed media, and one in marquetry.
“We’ve got a fabulous assortment of artists on tour this year,” said glass artist Heather Wood. “The range and quality of work is incredible. Artists come and go so there’s always something new.”
Many of the artists, including Carolyn Sharpe and Dennis Novosad, draw on the beauty of the Grand River and surrounding landscapes as inspiration for their work.
And four of the artists – Joel Masewich, Barry McCarthy, Neil Hanscomb and Linda Risacher Copp – have been on the tour since the beginning and will be opening their studio doors again in 2016.
The 30th annual Elora Fergus Studio Tour takes place from 10am to 5pm on Sept. 24 and 25, and again on Oct. 1 and 2.
Home base is the Fergus Public Library, which will display a piece from each of the participating 32 artists so that visitors can get an overview of the tour.
