MOUNT FOREST – Wellington County OPP officials are asking for the public’s assistance regarding a stolen vehicle.
Police say a red 2013 Kia Rio with Ontario licence plate CTYH416 (with a buffed-out scratch along the driver’s side rear door) was stolen from a parking lot on Industrial Drive in Mount Forest on Aug. 29 between 1 and 3am.
The OPP is offering the following steps to help reduce vehicle thefts
- do not leave keys in a vehicle, do not leave vehicles running and always lock them;
- treat keys like cash (don’t leave them in places they are easy to steal such as a gym locker, on a desk at work, in an open purse or unattended in a shopping cart);
- never leave anything in a vehicle in plain view; and
- install a remote car starter – they are designed to shut off the vehicle if anyone attempts to drive it without a key.
Anyone with information about this incident can contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip at www.csgw.tips.
