Statutory holidays to be reviewed

In its recent passage of a bylaw to fix the amounts payable to Puslinch officials for 2013, councillors here also agreed to look at which days are allowed as statutory holidays for staff.

Councillor Ken Roth asked why the township pays for so many statutory holidays – such as Easter Monday.

“That is not a statutory holiday,” said Roth.

Mayor Dennis Lever said he believed the holidays paid for by Puslinch “are pretty universal around the municipal world.”

However, Lever said the CAO has been asked to look at benefits and compensation to ensure pay equity is in line with where it should be.

“It will be reviewed at that time,” Lever said at the April 17 council meeting.
