St. John Brebeuf Catholic School parent council participates in Erin Fall Fair display competition

ERIN – The parents at St. John Brebeuf Catholic Elementary School have been busy defending their title for the best Erin Fall Fair promotional display.

With the help of many hands on a Saturday morning, the school’s 2024 Erin Fall Fair display was complete.

“This year was good; there was about 10 parents [helping],” St. John Brebeuf parent council president Jenny Cajucom told the Advertiser.

This year’s 174th fair theme is country routes and rubber boots – hence all the rubber boots in the display donated by the parents.

The display took two hours to create and is made up of old clothing, rubber boots, pumpkins and any decorations brought in by the helpers.

“We always try to add some flare to it,” added Cajucom.

The display also includes a construction site in the works with scarecrow-like figures wearing safety vests.

“We wanted construction cause all Erin is right now is construction,” she noted.

For the last three years the council has participated in the competition.

The parents finished their 2024 creation on Sept. 28, a day before judging began.

The display will stay up until the end of the fall fair and those interested can view it at 30 Millwood Road in Erin at the front of the school.

“It’s just so great for the community to bring that spirit alive again and to get so excited for the fall fair,” she said.

Last year’s winning display was based on the 173rd fall fair theme, Beyond the Barn Door.

The parents received $125 for first place which the school’s principal placed back into the school’s snack program, stated Cajucom.

This year the competition has five cash prizes ranging from $25 to $125.

“It’s mainly just to bring happiness …” she said.

“Everyone’s going to be smiling when they see it and laughing because of the construction site.”
