ERIN – On Nov. 28 council approved an amendment to a town parking bylaw due to safety concerns raised by residents and customers of area businesses.
The amendment recommended that parking bylaw 6000-23 change the parking prohibition on Spring Street in Erin from the south side to the north side.
Spring Street previously had a “no parking” restriction on the south side of the road from Main Street to Daniel Street.
A request was received by the town to change the restriction to the north side of Spring Street “due to concerns for safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic,” stated the report.
Feedback from residents and customers of area businesses indicated an increased demand for mobility and accessibility considerations.
There is more on-street parking available on the south side of Spring Street as there are fewer driveways. This change will provide more parking spaces for residents of and visitors to the town, stated officials.
The town’s bylaw department and Wellington County OPP received parking complaints for Spring Street for various infractions. There have been 29 parking complaints received in 2024, according to the report.
In 2023 there were 30 reported parking complaints for Spring Street.
“The change will address the parking complaints on that street, alleviate calls for service and provide higher service levels for other reported concerns,” stated the report.
Staff will implement the change within a two-week period and enforcement of the new parking prohibition will commence once signs are posted.
