Flowers, photos and designs were all on display at the Clifford and District Horticultural Society spring flower show on May 27 at the Community Centre in Clifford.
Jean Yenssen won the judge’s choice Best of the Show, the Executive Special, as well as Section D – potted plants for which she was rewarded with cash prizes and a gift from Esther Hallman.
Section A – tulips, B – narcissus, C – spring flowers, and E – designs were all won by Ethel Weber earning her prizes from Wayne Pfeffer and Irene Judge. Men Only featuring a craft or hobby was won by Jim Measures.
There was a tie in the photography section between Marion Pfeffer and Karen Dowler, with both earning prizes from Bambina’s Place. 25 exhibitors entered 241 entries in this show.
Nine youth gardeners entered 71 exhibits.
Guest speakers Les and Lois Young and daughter Cathy Fletcher set up a display on memorabilia and artifacts from Arizona and shared their slides and stories of the Navajo natives, cacti and their vacations.
The Ontario Horticulture Association convention will be held in Cornwall in July. The youth partners will meet for a barbecue in July and the next meeting will feature Dorelene Anderson demonstrating flower designs at the summer flower show in August.
