ELORA – Spectators will return to the Grand River Raceway here on June 30.
“We are thrilled to welcome back guests in advance of the anticipated move to step two,” stated Jamie Martin, director of operations at the raceway in a June 25 press release.
“We will continue to deliver high quality racing, and a true experience for guests, while also operating in a safe manner in accordance with [public health] best practices.”
The raceway will initially welcome back 500 spectators, starting on June 30, to coincide with the start of step two of the province’s reopening plan.
“Although indoor spaces will remain closed until step three, there will be access to betting, and food and beverage from The New GrandWay Lounge,” states the release.
Spectators will be required to register online “to provide ease of contact tracing,” be asked to engage in passive COVID-19 screening and be reminded to practice physical distancing.
Fans may not attend the track if they:
- have symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, or shortness of breath);
- have travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days; and/or
- have been in close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19.
During step two the raceway will offer 11 races every Monday, Wednesday, Friday race night (open at 5:30pm, post time 6:30pm).
The Tarmac, Tarmac Tent, GrandWay Lounge Patio, Grandstand and Bleachers will all be available, but with no assigned seating.
All guest looking to watch racing will enter from the east (left) side of the main building and will have open access between the Tarmac and new GrandWay Patio.
“We are incredibly excited to open to guests, and certainly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate this new way of operating,” stated Katie Giddy, director of hospitality, sales and marketing.
“We are certainly doing everything we can to be prepared and invite guest to ‘expect an experience.'”
Track officials say “Neighbourhood activities,” trackside entertainment and the Elements Casino will not reopen until stage three of the province’s reopening plan.
