Frustrated and concerned parents might find difficulties in getting the answers to all their questions.
The Family Information Fair has been organized by an extensive group of health and welfare professionals who are aware of the ever growing need for communication between families and available resources in Wellington County.
The morning is free to all and will run on Feb. 9 from 9am until 1pm at St. Joseph Catholic School in Fergus.
Participants of the Family Information Fair understand that figuring out what questions to ask, and where, and with whom to speak can be both overwhelming and confusing.
During the course of the event, people can speak with any of the people and groups present; ask questions of the panel of experts; listen to the understanding and experienced speakers; attend free parent workshops, or just browse through the information tables.
Among the specialists available are: the Upper Grand District School Board, Wellington Catholic District School Board, Trellis Mental Health (formerly Community Mental Health), Fergus Educational Services, Community Resource Center, Dr. Dan Dalton’s Office and educational assessments, the Wellington County Library, Integrated Center for Optimal Learning, Playsense Activity Centers, Learning Disabilities Assoc. of Wellington County, and many more.
One of the greatest achievements of the fair has been the formation of a parent networking group called Parent2parent. Its members encourage people to speak to the representatives there and to share stories, frustrations, and concerns as well as achievements and successes.
The Family Information Fair is a community of support for children’s academic, social, mental, and physical health and success.
