A South Bruce woman is dead and a man and a baby injured after a serious crash here on Wednesday.
On May 31 at about 11:30pm, emergency crews were called to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 9, north of Ayton Line in Minto.
Wellington County OPP officials say a 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up truck was travelling northbound on Highway 9 when it veered into the west ditch, and struck a tree.
The vehicle, which had three occupants, then caught fire.
“A passerby stopped and, along with assistance from the two homeowners at the location, attempted to remove the occupants,” police stated in a press release.
“They were successful in removing the driver and the baby, but were unable to remove the female passenger, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
The woman was later identified as Jodi Lynn Whitehead, 25, of South Bruce.
The male driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and then air lifted to a Hamilton hospital with serious injuries. The baby was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Highway 9 was closed between the Ayton Road and the 14th Line for several hours.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision to call 1-888-310-1122.
