After deferring a motion on the selection of a source water representative, it now looks like in the end local politicians will have little say in the matter.
Councillors here recently considered yet another recommendation for a municipal representative for the source water protection committee for the Saugeen, Grey Sauble, and Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Water Protection Region.
On Sept. 16, council deferred a recommendation supporting Ken Furlong, of Southgate Township.
Council’s revised resolution offered to consider to either Furlong, Bob White, or any other representative to the source water committee.
Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen said she hoped “this motion will settle things up for us.”
As a result of deferring the motion, Dirksen called the mayor of Hanover to see if there was a possibility of those involved gathering to discuss the matter.
At that point, she was told it is out of Minto’s hands this time – and there is no point supporting any other municipality because the source water protection committee was going to make the decision.
But then, Dirksen received a subsequent letter that indicated the group of municipalities still are required to make some type of decision.
“So, [I hope] this will cover those two … or anyone else who might be nominated.”
She recommended the motion be passed on to the other municipalities involved, “so they know what we’re doing.”
The resolution was carried.
