Songs of Sanctuary sets the tone for Elora Singers’ 2024-25 concert season

KITCHENER – The Elora Singers pull back the curtain for their 2024-25 concert series Oct. 20 with Songs of Sanctuary, a concert consisting of composed pieces inspired by sacred spaces such as the Sistine Chapel and Notre Dame.

For the first half of the concert audiences will be immersed in pieces composed for very specific spaces, including the Sistine Chapel, St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, and Notre Dame in Paris.

The works are closely connected to the locations in which they were first heard, and the music has been shaped by the locations says officials.

The second half of the concert features the Canadian premiere of Alex Berko’s new work, Sacred Place.

The composer describes this work as an “ecological service that connects the old with the new, the sacred with the secular, and the individual with their community.”

It draws together texts by Wendell Berry, John Muir, Rabindranath Tagore and others.

The concert will begin at the St. Mathews Centre in Kitchener at 4pm. For the full list of 2024-25 concerts and locations, or to buy tickets, visit ticketpeak.co/elorasingers/events.
