Some site contamination at the new Walmart store being built in the north end of town here has slowed construction – a little.
Senior land development manager Christine Cote, of Smart Centres, said in an interview last week that she had only a few details about the problem but it is nothing new to the company building the centre for the American retail giant.
“We have encountered some soil issues,” she said in an interview on Jan. 5. “We encounter issues on many of our sites as we deal with them. We’re dealing with them on a day to day basis – and we expect we’ll be back up and running shortly.”
Cote said because the company does much construction of new stores, soil contamination is just a fact of life.
She was unable to provide further details about the problems at the Fergus site.
