The September meeting of the Arthur and District Horticultural Society was opened by president Linda Fearnley with the singing of O Canada.
Diane Ellison read the treasurer’s report showing a total of $4,381.
Robert Macdonald gave a report for the Junior club. It went in the Fall Fair parade and won third prize. In Fearnley ’s report, she mentioned that seeds were purchased to pass out along the parade route with stickers on the back of the packages inviting people to meetings and shows. That worked very well, and might be done again next year with time to plan ahead. They had a great show for September with lots of entries The fall district meeting is in Shelburne this year.
There will be a Christmas design workship led by Lacey Koeslag, of Labelle Flowers on Dec. 4, 9 am at the Arthur United Church.. Those taking part will make a fresh dining room table design to take home, and learn how to make a urn for outdoor decoration using birch logs.
Guest speaker, Robert Pavlis had been on a trip to Holland and had many slides. His subjects for his talk included, What is a Bulb?
A true bulb is a self contained plant. He gave many tips on care and maintenance of plantings such as planting in layers, keeping bulbs moist when planted, and in the sun when they are growing for best results.
