The grand opening of a sewage treatment plant may not seem the most auspicious occasion for a provincial minister, but it is an historic event in Mount Forest.
Minister of Energy and Infrastructure George Smitherman, was invited to the grand opening by Wellington North Mayor Mike Broomhead.
At a recent council session, Broomhead mentioned his Toronto trip to meet with heads of other local utilities to discuss the impact of various pieces of legislation such as the Green Energy Act, to the implementation of smart meters and how that will affect local rates.
“Mr. Smitherman was there and seemed quite interested in the discussion I had the opportunity to personally invite him to the official opening of the new sewage treatment plant in Mount Forest, and he’s hoping to make it.”
