Town officials are now considering Centre 2000 as a possible location for a new skateboard park.
“I think it’s a good place to put it,” councillor Ken Chapman said last week.
He added the town’s recreation and culture committee agrees the west end of the arena, near the ice resurfacer exit, is a suitable location for a new skateboard park.
Chapman also noted the possibility exists that a company could donate the concrete pad, which would cut down costs considerably.
Councillors Barb Tocher and John Brennan also liked the idea. Tocher said someone is usually at the arena in case of an emergency, and the facility also has washrooms and is close to a trail that will allow those in the Hillsburgh area to access the skateboard park.
However, she added the town will have to host a public meeting to get feedback on the location, because some people will likely be happy with the idea and some won’t.
