Six local fair ambassador are preparing for their time in the spotlight in one of Ontario’s agricultural traditions, the CNE’s annual Ambassador of the Fairs competition.
Competing in the 2015 competition will be local ambassadors:
– Jordan Pedersen of the Erin Fall Fair;
– Courtney Rogerson of the Fergus Fall Fair;
– Jocelyn Schill of the Palmerston Fair;
– Kaitlin Brown of the Arthur Fall Fair;
– Ashley Ferraro of the Mount Forest Fall Fair; and
– Alex Wilson of the Harriston-Minto Fall Fair.
“The CNE is rooted in agricultural history, and for more than 40 years, thousands of young representatives from 100 communities throughout the province have competed in this illustrious contest that promotes, educates and celebrates Canadian agriculture while bridging the gap between rural and urban communities,” CNE officials state. Contestants are judged on everything from knowledge of “The Ex” and agriculture to poise, personality and overall impression.
Samantha Binkley of the Arthur Agricultural Society was first runner-up at the 2014 competition. Wellington County contestants have captured the title four times since 1972, including most recent winner, Jeanine Moyer of Fergus in 2004.
This year the event will take place at the CNE from Aug. 21 to Aug. 23, with the winner being crowned Sunday afternoon in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
