SIU investigating after man found dead in hotel

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the death of a 25-year-old man inside a hotel room here early on Tuesday.

Guelph Police were called to the Holiday Inn Express on SilverCreek Parkway in Guelph at about 2am on May 17.

Police say officers responded after a call from a hotel staff member who reported a man in a third floor room was making noise and “causing extensive damage.”

Attempts to speak with the male were unsuccessful, police say, so the police Tactics and Rescue Team was deployed to help gain access to the room.

“Entry into the room was successful (at about 4am), however the male was located unresponsive,” states a Guelph Police press release.

Upon discovery of the  25-year-old man’s body,  police notified the SIU, which has assigned four investigators and one forensic investigator to the incident.

“There will be no further communication by the Guelph Police at this time,” states the police press release.

The SIU is urging anyone with information related to this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
