Local residents may not want to lean against street light posts in downtown Erin village any time soon.
According to roads superintendent Larry Van Wyck, an electrical problem on Main?Street means some of the poles could be “energized” if there is ever a short in the wiring.
The problem affects street lights on both sides of Main Street from Credit River Motor Company north to the TD Bank corner (Church Street), but could be as widespread as every single street light on Main Street, Van Wyck explained.
He suggested hiring an electrical engineer to see what’s involved in addressing the problem.
“I have no idea what this is going to cost because I have no idea where it’s going to end,” he said of the potential re-wiring along Main Street.
Van?Wyck stressed everything is working fine right now and the only way there could be a problem is if there is a short in the wiring.
However, he added the town can’t ignore the potential problem.
“I think we want a long-range plan to do [all of Main Street],” Van Wyck said.
Council unanimously approved a resolution directing the roads superintendent to retain the services of an electrical engineer and report back to council with a recommendation on how to fix the problem.
