Shoplifter caught on tape trying to flee store, falling

Police are asking for help to identify a female involved in an attempted theft from the Walmart on Highway 6.

On April 26 at about 8pm a “clumsy” woman was caught on camera trying to make off with $651 worth of stolen items in a cart, police say.

Chased by a staff member from the store, the woman stumbles and falls hard, possibly injuring her head and/or face and left side, while the cart topples over after hitting a curb. The woman then quickly flees.

The video can be viewed on the Advertiser and West Region OPP Twitter accounts.

Police say staff at the store recognized the woman in the video from another alleged theft days earlier involving $2,494 worth of product.

“In both incidents the woman was assisted by unidentified suspects and part of a theft ring,” police stated in a press release.

The woman caught on video is described as white, 40 to 50 years old, 165 pounds, with long black hair, glasses and a tattoo on her back, wearing a light long sleeve shirt and black pants.

“She may also have minor injuries to her left side sustained during a fall when fleeing staff,” police stated.

OPP officials say her alleged accomplices are the two men and three women described below.

Male 1: white, 30 to 40 years old with short dark hair wearing dark sunglasses and a dark short sleeve shirt with blue jeans

Male 2: white, 30 to 40 years old wearing a red/white ball cap, a light colored sweater and khaki pants.
