Shamrock awards – The Town of Erin hosted the annual Shamrock awards ceremony at Centre 2000 on April 19. Nominations were submitted by residents and winners were chosen by town council based on the strength of the nomination and on a ranked ballot system. Awards were presented in five categories:
Five Community Volunteer Awards, to Gerry Walsh, Venus Hood, Luke Longstreet, Audrey Devonshire, and Val Bush. Citizen of the Year Award: Ann Shanahan. Innovation Award: Farmstead Fresh – Marcel Pijper and Josh Scheerer. Business of the Year Award: Erin Pharmacy – Peter Meleka. Agriculture / Agri-Business Award (new for this year): Budson Farm and Feed. Environment Award (new for this year) Nathan Audette. Mayor Michael Dehn congratulated and thanked the volunteers and told the audience, “We are very fortunate to live in a community where everyone’s hard work and contributions have enhanced our town tremendously.”
