At the last meeting in November, county councillors announce what committee chairmanships they want for the following year.
On Nov. 27, the announcements meant several elections on Friday – and one position that had no candidates.
Current chairman of the administration, finance, and personnel Mike Broomhead, and fellow-committee member Joanne Ross-Zuj are seeking the warden’s post, and nobody else indicated interest in chairing that committee.
Councillor Carl Hall has been chairman of the roads committee, and said it is “my time to step back.”
He did wish to remain a member of that committee, though.
Two other councillors are seeking that chairmanship: Rod Finnie and Lynda White.
Councillors Bob Wilson, Gord Tosh, and Brad Whitcombe were running unopposed for solid waste services, information, seniors and heritage, and social services respectively.
The Police Services Board holds a different position in that the board elects the chairman, and the county representative acts as liaison between the county and the board. Councillors Lynda White, Lou Maieron, and David Anderson have indicated their interest in that job.
Councillor Jean Innes, a current member of the planning committee, and current chairman Walter Trachsel will square off in that election.
The remaining councillors indicated which committees they hope to sit on, and many of them asked for reappointment to various boards and commissions for which they worked the past year.
