WELLINGTON COUNTY – Two Centre Wellington seniors are facing a combined 25 charges in connection with numerous sexual assaults that occurred four to six decades ago – and police believe there could be more victims.
Wellington County OPP officials say police started an investigation last September into the incidents, which took place “between 1961 and 1984 at a residence in the County of Wellington.”
The Jan. 10 press release did not provide any other details about the assaults.
OPP spokesperson Josh Cunningham told the Advertiser two victims have been identified in the investigation “thus far,” but police believe there could be more victims.
He would not provide more information about the location of the assaults, noting, “we are taking all precautions necessary not to identify any victim.”
Cunningham added, “Further evidentiary information may be presented in court.”
Murray F. Richards, 89, of Centre Wellington, was charged with:
- assault;
- sexual assault;
- forcible confinement;
- eight counts of indecent assault on a female; and
- 12 counts of gross indecency.
Ruth E. Richards, 85, of Centre Wellington, was charged with assault and forcible confinement.
Both are to appear in Guelph court on March 8.
