Senior faces child porn charges

A Fergus senior faces several child pornography charges, following a two-month investigation.

OPP officials say that in November, officers from Guelph Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit conducted an on-line child pornography investigation.

“At that time, they identified a male making available child sexual abuse images via the internet,” the OPP stated in a press release.

“Upon further investigation, the male was believed to be residing in Fergus … (so) the matter was turned over to the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit for investigation.”

On Jan. 25 officers from the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, OPP Technological Crime Unit and the central Wellington OPP detachment executed a search warrant at a Fergus residence and seized one computer device and other items containing “child sexual abuse images,” police say. Officers will be conducting forensic analysis on those items.

Paul Douglas Curry, 71, of Fergus, was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.

He is in custody pending a bail hearing on Feb. 2 in Guelph.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
