PUSLINCH – A section of Wellington Road 35 here has been closed due to failure of a section of the Paddock Bridge.
A notice issued on May 17 by Wellington County roads manager Joe de Koning states the road was closed between Concessions 1 and 2 on May 12 “as a result of a failure of a section of the Paddock Bridge deck.”
The notice states that after further inspection by engineers on May 15, it has been determined that “due to structural deterioration, and as a measure to ensure public safety,” Paddock Bridge will remain closed until replaced.
The notice states efforts are being made to expedite a tender package and obtain required agency approvals.
Paddock Bridge was scheduled for replacement in 2024, however an emergency bridge replacement will now start in 2023.
Wellington Road 35 will remain closed to through traffic at the bridge location until the new bridge is constructed.
A detour route takes traffic around the project site, utilizing Concession 1, Sideroad 20 South and Concession 2.
