ELORA – Get your outfits ready for this year’s “Adult Prom” at The GrandWay Events Centre in Elora on Oct. 13.
The second annual Adult Prom will serve as a fundraiser for the Centre Wellington Food Bank. The event started after Tiffany Bester watched the movie Senior Prom featuring Rebel Wilson.
“After seeing that movie, I put a post in the local mom’s group just saying, ‘Hey, how come all the fun things happen when we’re kids? Why don’t we get to have prom as adults? And then there was crazy amounts of interest,” said Bester.
Rather than throwing a typical prom, Bester said she and the other volunteers at the Centre Wellington Events Collective wanted to make it a classier event.
It is fully run by six volunteers, and last year the event sparked the interest of over 70 attendees. Along with dancing, the event will also have a full sit-down dinner.
“We’re also going to have prom royalty,” said Bester.
At last year’s prom, organizers raised money by running a draw for individuals to become “prom royalty” similar to prom king and queen. It raised $2,500 for the Food and Friends program out of the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.
“We just want to be able to give as much back to the food bank as we can, given the time that we’re in right now,” the organizer said.
Tickets to the event are $100 and are available at zeffy.com.
