Seat belt offence leads to trafficking charge

On May 3 at about 10:30am, Wellington County OPP officers stopped the driver of a sedan on Gartshore Street here for an alleged seat belt offence.

Police say that while speaking with the driver officers detected the strong odor of fresh marijuana  and then observed marihuana in the vehicle.

Alexander Joel Duquette, 18, of Centre Wellington, was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and is to appear in Guelph court on June 5.

A 16-year-old male youth was charged and diverted, police say.
