Stempski Kelly Associates Inc. (SKA) has been retained by Centre Wellington to facilitate the public process to identify Elora site options for a future Centre Wellington skatepark.
The township has been approached by an organized group, Skatepark Elora, whose members are passionate about creating a space where residents and skateboarders can come together to actively participate in this sport.
Skatepark Elora has been enthusiastically fundraising for the project, identifying commitments toward their goal of $350,000.
The Centre Wellington capital forecast identifies $150,000 toward this project in 2018.
In order to begin the planning and facilitate additional fundraising, proponents state it is time to identify the options for locating a skatepark facility in Elora which will align with the recommendation in the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan which states “these facilities should be distributed in a manner that maximizes access from population concentrations and some may be ideal compliments to existing facilities.”
“We are enthusiastic to work with stakeholders, the public and Stempski Kelly Associates Inc. on this project,” said Brian Detzler, managing director of community services.
“SKA is a local landscape architecture firm who has been working with the skatepark group and has vast experience in facilitation public processes to identify locations and options for this type of facility. It is important for us to evaluate these and make decisions which lead us to our long term plans based on our planning processes to date.”
A public open house is set for Aug. 24 from 7 to 8:30pm at the Elora Community Centre.
