Scottish, Gaelic Festival on the Grand

Fèis air a’ Mhòr  (Festival on the Grand), a teaching festival of Scottish Gaelic language, song and traditional music, will take place here the civic holiday weekend, Aug. 2 to 4.

It is an opportunity to experience the language and culture of Scottish Gaelic through music and song at historic venues along the banks of the Grand River in Fergus and Elora– an area rich in Scottish history.

Enjoy a fun-filled weekend with special guests from Argyll, Scotland:

– Joy Dunlop (Gaelic language, song, stepdancing);

– Sorren Maclean (guitar, ensemble);

– Andrew Dunlop (piano, harp, ensemble); and

– Lorne MacDougall (pipes, whistles, ensemble.

On Aug. 2, meet Joy and the Band from 11 to 11:30am at the Fergus Grand Theatre.

Also that day at the theatre, there will be a Big Wee Sing from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

Attendees will meet at the Fergus Grand Theatre at 11:30am as Joy Dunlop teaches a simple Gaelic song, to then be performed in Templin Gardens and at a stop or two in downtown Fergus.

This will be followed by a Clàrsach (harp) workshop from 2 to 3pm.

Then at 8pm, enjoy an evening with Joy Dunlop at the  Fergus Grand Theatre.

Tickets are available at the box office on 244 St. Andrew St. W., or by phone at 519-787-1981.
