Scottish band Dàimh coming to Fergus on Aug. 31

Scottish band Dàimh will be performing at the Fergus Grand Theatre on Aug. 31 at 8pm.

The band has earned the title Folk Band of the Year 2015 and 2016 at the Scots Trad Awards, Best Folk Band in Europe 2015 at the Folkherbst Competition and Gaelic Singer of the Year 2016 at the Scots Trad Awards.

Based in Scotland around West Lochaber and the Isle of Skye and taking their name from the Gaelic word for “kinship,” Dàimh (pronounced dive) has taken its contemporary take of Highland and Gaelic music to over 20 countries.

With a reputation as giants of the bagpipes and fiddle, Angus MacKenzie and Gabe McVarish remain the lead instrumental force with fellow founding member Ross Martin underpinning the groove on the guitar.

The band is joined by Murdo “Yogi” Cameron on mandola and accordion to complete the instrumental line up.

Dàimh has worked with some of the finest Gaelic singers in Scotland and the current line up including this tour’s Gaelic firmament, Ellen Macdonald on vocals.

The Fergus concert is only one of two Canadian performances.  Tickets for the Aug. 31 performance at the Fergus Grand Theatre are $30 for adults and $20 for students.

Tickets can be purchased at the theatre box office at 244 St. Andrew St. W. in Fergus, by phone at 519-787-1981 or online at www.fergusgrandtheatre.ca.
