School gun scare turned out to be student project

A gun scare that resulted in a lockdown at a Fergus school turned out to be part of a school project.

On May 8 at about 10:30am, Wellington County OPP received a complaint of students walking towards Maranatha Christian School in Fergus possibly carrying long guns.

Numerous OPP officers attended and the school lockdown procedures were initiated.

“Investigation revealed that the students were filming a school project and were using pellet guns as props with teacher’s awareness,” police said in a press release.

“The guns were secured and the lockdown was lifted.”
