Santa parade part of Harriston Hometown Christmas on Nov. 18

HARRISTON – Santa Claus is set to make an appearance at the annual Christmas parade here, as part of a day of seasonal fun for local families on Nov. 18.

The Harriston Santa Claus parade is once again being organized by Town of Minto firefighters will begin at 7pm. Parade participant lineup starts at 6:15pm at the corner of William Street West and John Street (near Speare Seeds).

The parade date coincides with the Harriston Hometown Christmas event hosted by Harriston Rising and Minto Fire. Families are encouraged to spend the day in town enjoying activities such as face painting, visits with Santa Claus, fireside stories, a vendors’ market, lunch and more. 

Youngsters can visit with Santa Claus from 10am to 12pm at Tannery Park. Candy apples, popcorn and hot chocolate will be available by donation.

A holiday market featuring about 40 vendors will run from 10am to 4pm at the Harriston Arena and Harriston Legion.

Fireside stories will be offered at the Harriston branch of the County of Wellington Library from 10:30 to 11am. There will be stories, activities and holiday-themed fun for the whole family. Drop-in face painting from Makin’ Faces will be offered at the library from 11am to 1pm.

A chicken on a bun lunch will be offered at the Harriston Legion from 11am to 1pm.

Public skating is set for 3 to 4pm at the Harriston arena.

A free showing of the classic Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer movie will be held at The Crown Harriston and afterward a free hot chocolate station will be set up next door at the Magic Ice Cream Shoppe right before the 7pm parade.

At 8pm, families can wrap up their day at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre as the Grey Wellington Theatre Guild stages its holiday play, 12 Days ‘til Christmas, featuring local talent (see greywellingtontheatre.com for details).
