Santa Claus is making special home visits this Christmas to Rockwood and the surrounding area.
The Lions Club of Rockwood has arranged for Santa Claus to visit homes daily from 5:30 to 7pm leading up to Christmas.
“It’s a 15-minute visit with Santa and … elves come with him, could be anywhere from one to four or five … depends on how busy we are,” explained Lion Darryl Nichol.
If families want Santa to give their child a gift they can leave it wrapped by the front door for Santa to pick up on his way into the house. While Santa is visiting, families can take as many photos as they like.
Santa’s visit serves as a fundraiser for the Lions Club of Rockwood so there is a fee, which varies depending on the location and the number of children present. To find out more about the cost and to book a visit call Victoria at 519-835-5606 or email vsrt.caulfeild@sympatico.ca.
Callers are encouraged to provide some information about the children who are meeting Santa so he can be more informed during his visit, Nichol said.
The Lions Club and Santa travelled throughout Wellington County and beyond last year to Arthur, Erin, Acton and Halton Hills, in addition to Rockwood.
Nichol emphasized all the money raised goes right back into the community through various Lions initiatives such as guide dogs, eye-screening in schools, special equipment for hospitals, etc.
“It’s getting so hard to raise money nowadays with all the different government regulations,” Nichol said. “So this is something we started a couple of years ago and it seems to be going over well right now, so we’re sticking with it.”
Last year Santa visited about 88 houses plus schools. As of Dec. 1 there were about 44 time slots booked for this year.
Santa will make home visits seven days a week from 5:30 to 7pm until Dec. 22.
