The Dr. Ethel Chapman scholarship sponsored by Wellington-Halton District Women’s Institute was recently presented to Alexandra Russell, of Rockwood.
She attended Rockway Mennonite Collegiate in Waterloo and will attend university this fall. Along with the application form, each applicant was required to submit an essay about Teenage Concerns.
Chapman was a teacher, a government home economist, editor of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario quarterly magazine, Home & Country, author of five novels and numerous papers and among other honours, was an inductee into the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame.
As a role model to generations of girls and young women throughout the province, she stressed the importance of education that would prepare them for future careers.
