Run FARE coming to Guelph-Eramosa

Beginnings Guelph is offering a new fundraiser called Run FARE (family adventure race experience) next month.

On Sept. 15 participants of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in the 1km race that will involve obstacles, Amazing Race-type challenges and scavenger hunt activities at the Elora Road Christian School in Guelph-Eramosa.

“The idea is for fun, for families to do something physically active, to be outside participating together and to support a wonderful agency,” said Lynn Ker, event coordinator with Beginnings Guelph.

As part of Beginnings Family Services, Beginnings Guelph offers pregnancy care and parenting support in the community.

“We’re a non-profit faith-based but non-political organization and our goal is basically to provide and nurture genuine, authentic, compassionate and non-judgemental relationships with our clients so that we can provide soul support in their pregnancy and parenting journey,” explained director Cherylynn Lumasag.

Though this is the first year for Run FARE, the organization has been holding a walk/run in Guelph for eight years.

“This is the first time that we’re doing an obstacle course and we decided to add that twist just to change things up and bring in fresh excitement to our annual fundraiser,” Lumasag said.

Some of the challenges participants will face include a maze, a marble hunt in a pool of slime and a price match on baby items.

The race will be completed in teams. The registration fee depends on the size of the team:

– $50 for a family of two parents and up the three children;

– $30 for a team of two teens between 13 and 18 years of age; and

– $40 for a team of two adults.

Participants in the main course can be as young as eight years of age and there will be an additional small course for children seven and younger.

When participants register they will also receive a pledge form.

Registration on Sept. 15 begins at 9am and the race starts at 10am. Participants will be released in heats.
