Royal Canadian Legion offers student bursaries

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Royal Canadian Legion is accepting applications for its student Bursary Program.

The bursary is open to Legion members, their children and their grandchildren; ex-service personnel; and currently serving members of the Canadian Forces and their children and grandchildren.

It is for up to $1,000 per year towards a degree, diploma or certificate post-secondary  course.

Students must have already begun their post-secondary studies to apply.

Indentured apprentices may also apply for assistance for the purchase of tools and instruments.

“Approved bursary assistance is not based upon scholastic standing but rather on the successful admission status to a post secondary institution or successful completion of one or more years leading to a recognized degree, diploma, or certificate,” Legion officials state.

The bursary is funded through the Ontario Command Branches and Ladies’ Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation, which fundraise through poppy tagging, Bingo, break open tickets, banquets, and clubhouse operations.

To download an application form, visit on.legion.ca/remembrance/youth-programs/bursaries.

Applications are also available to pick up from local Legion branches.

Required documents include proof of OSAP application, a school endorsement, and Legion membership verification or proof of service.

Applications must be mailed to the Legion Ontario Command (89 Industrial Parkway North, Aurora, Ontario, L4G 5C4) by March 28, 2025 for consideration.

For more information, email bursary@on.legion.ca or call 1-888-0939, or contact a local Legion branch.
