After the Earthquake hit Haiti on Jan. 12. members of the Rotary Club of Guelph emptied their pockets at the Jan. 15 and 22 lunchtime meetings and they contributed $9,460 towards the Rotary ShelterBox program.
Honorary Member Mayor Karen Farbridge attended the Jan. 15 meeting and was impressed with the program and the generosity of the Rotary response.
On her return to city hall, Farbridge encouraged councillors and senior staff to add to the program.
City officials emptied their pockets and added another $2,370 to the contribution.
The Rotary Club of Guelph is also contributing an additional $1,000 from its disaster relief fund.
The total for Haiti Relief is approximately $13,000.
Lakeside Church helps Haiti
The Lakeside Church community in Guelph responded immediately to aid Haiti by partnering with Mission Aviation Fellowship Canada (MAF), based in Guelph, to provide aid to those affected.
On Jan. 17, Lakeside Church attendees gave more than $12,000 on top of their weekly offering that will go directly to provide support for the Haitian community.
