CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Rotary Club of Centre Wellington will be closing its doors on June 30, marking the end of the Rotary year and the end of the club that has served the community for 18 years.
“Declining membership has prevented us from being able to continue after [June 30],” officials stated in a press release.
This has no impact on the Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora, which will continue to meet on Tuesdays over lunch hour.
The Rotary Club of Centre Wellington will continue its meetings on Thursday mornings until the end of June, where members will continue to grant funds locally and internationally and also work to close the club in a deliberate/planned fashion.
“I think communities have changed since the pandemic,” club member Ron McKinnon stated in an email.
“People are looking at their use of time differently.”
In recent years the club has supported Fergus Elora Special Needs Soccer, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the Groves Hospital Foundation, among other local organizations.
Internationally, club members supported aid efforts to assist those impacted by floods in Pakistan as well as those impacted by the famine in Somalia.
Every year the club made a donation to Polio Plus to assist in eradicating the polio virus from the world, officials say.
In addition, club members devoted their time to support fundraising and community events sponsored by Sensational Elora and volunteered time to support Canada Blood Services with the Centre Wellington Blood Donor Clinics.
