Romancing the Song debuts

Three of Canada’s foremost entertainers gather for the first time around the Eden Mills piano in Romancing the Song on Feb. 18 at the Eden Mills Community Hall at 8pm.

Lorretta Bailey, James Gordon and David Warrack will be choosing popular songs from musical theatre, films and Tin Pan Alley of the early to mid-20th century.

Featured songs will include those by songwriters Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Richard Rodgers and others.

Bailey came to prominence as Éponine in the Toronto production of Les Misérables, and went on to perform with all of the major regional theatre companies across Canada.

Gordon, a Rockwood native who now lives in Guelph (where he is a city councillor), was a founder and longtime member of Tamarack, the acclaimed Canadian folk group, as well as Guelph’s Hillside Festival.

Toronto-based Warrack is a composer/conductor/performer, equally at home in the classical, musical theatre and jazz worlds. He recently served as music director for Some Enchanted Evening, a celebration of 150 years of musical theatre.

Romancing the Song will take place Feb. 18 at 8pm at Eden Mills Community Hall. Tickets (at the door) at $25 for adults and $10 for students.

Advance tickets can be purchased online using PayPal at www.edenmills.ca/music.
