Rogers Wireless has proposed a new telecommunications tower in the Watson and Maltby Roads area.
On Nov. 2, councillors received communications from Rogers Wireless in the form of a formal overview and notice of its intent to build a new telecommunications tower.
In the report, Jeff McKay, wrote for some time, Rogers has been aware of a coverage deficiency in the township for 850MHz phone and high speed internet services.
“Unfortunately, the economics of the low population density, coupled with the competitive issues of many new carriers entering the field, has prevented our earlier deployment of additional towers in rural areas.”
“A recent change in business strategy has resulted in both the budget approvals and desire to accelerate our infrastructure rollout for some of these underserviced areas.
“It does looks like Puslinch is becoming a hotbed for communications,” offered councillor Wayne Stokley.
He cited Xplorenet, with its three towers and asked if this is Rogers’ second tower.
Mayor Dennis Lever said he would be more surprised if Rogers had only two towers locally. Looking clarification between Rogers and Xplorenet, Stokley heard Rogers provides phone and internet service.
He noted a previous presentation by Xplorenet had explained the difference in coverage areas based in height.
Rogers did have another tower just south of its current location, but ran into negotiation issues with the landowner when the company wanted to rebuild.
As a result, the proposal is to construct a new tower, Lever said.
